The role

Reporting to the Legal & Governance Manager, the Junior Lawyer will be working on a broad range of legal matters, primarily responsible for reviewing and drafting of legal documents.

What we will trust you with

Key responsibilities

  • Ongoing review and updating of the Institute's policies and procedures, particularly in corporate governance, research governance and data governance.
  • Management of contracts databases, data governance systems and processes.
  • Drafting and reviewing a variety of contracts including but not limited to research agreements, service agreements, licensing agreements and confidentiality agreements.
  • Mitigation and management of corporate risk, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Involvement in research integrity and research governance projects.
  • Supporting strategic intellectual property initiatives and providing legal advice on general commercial matters.

Does this sound like you?

  • Tertiary qualification in law (LLB) and admission to practice as a solicitor in Australia with a current practising certificate.
  • Up to 3 years of experience in private practice or in-house, with solid experience in commercial law and general corporate matters.
  • Exceptional writing skills with expertise in drafting contracts, policies, reports, and other communications.
  • Strong oral communication skills with the ability to clearly and succinctly express complex concepts.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical and strategic thinking abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the capability to work autonomously, within a small team and with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated integrity in all professional matters.
  • Competency in key desktop applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and database management.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development.

Desirable

  • Medical research institute or intellectual property experience.
