The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute
is dedicated to finding cures for cardiovascular disease
through world class medical research. Established in 1994,
it is the legacy of legendary heart transplant surgeon Victor
Chang. Renowned for the quality of its breakthroughs, the
Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is working to
discover better ways to diagnose, treat and ultimately
prevent the onset of heart disease.

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Post-doctoral
Scientist with experience and expertise in biostatistics,
computer science and machine learning to join the Heart
Valve Disease and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the
Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute. In this role you will
be involved in efforts to better understand pathophysiology
and clinical risk prediction in heart valve disease using state of-the-art machine learning analysis of cardiac imaging and
clinical data.
You will be working on projects that aim to predict disease
progression and optimise valve replacement selection and
timing in patients with heart valve disease.
You will support a dynamic laboratory that has a clinical
focus and links to the Department of Cardiology at St
Vincent’s Hospital, UNSW Centre for Big Data Research in
Health and UNSW Computer Science and Engineering.
Tasks will include biostatistical analyses of large clinical and
imaging databases, development of machine learning
algorithms and computer vision analyses, in addition to
conventional biostatistical analyses (including multivariable
regression modelling and survival analyses). Specific
skills/experience required include experience in working
with large and varied databases, machine learning algorithm
development and experience in computer vision. Software
experience with one or more of the following: SPSS, R, Stata,
Matlab, Python (or equivalent) is essential.

Are you looking to advance your career in academic research
and/or clinical science/medicine?
Are you passionate about clinical research and keen to
engage with patient-based research that can have direct
clinical applications?
Do you have a passion for science and want to work on the
most exciting and cutting-edge cardiovascular research in
Australia?
We would like to meet you if you have:
