The role
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Research
Assistant with experience and expertise in biostatistics and
computer science to join the Heart Valve Disease and
Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at the Victor Chang Cardiac
Research Institute. In this role you will be involved in efforts
to better understand pathophysiology and clinical risk
prediction in heart valve disease using state-of-the-art
analysis of echocardiographic images and clinical data.
You will be working on projects that aim to predict disease
progression and optimise valve replacement selection and
timing in patients with heart valve disease.
You will support a dynamic laboratory that has a clinical
focus and links to the Department of Cardiology at St
Vincent’s Hospital.
Tasks will include medical and imaging database construction and maintenance, data exporting, image deidentification, data extraction coding, data integration coding and biostatistical analyses, including running descriptive statistics, comparing groups, regression modelling and survival analyses. Specific skills/experience required include experience in working with large and varied databases, statistical experience as described and software experience with one or more of the following: SPSS, R, Stata, Matlab, Python. Coding skills are highly valued.
The position is full-time funded for 1 year, with the potential for extension.

We would like to meet you if you have:
A Bachelors or Honours degree in Computer Science and/or Biostatistics
Demonstrated capacity in statistical modelling and handling of large databases
