Your next career opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Cardiologist who has a PhD or is interested in completing a PhD.  This part time role (approx. 19 hours per week) will be a combined clinical and research fellowship for 12 months. Ideally, the candidate would like to continue research with the team beyond this, particularly in the form of a PhD.

What we will trust you with

The ATTR Cardiac Amyloid Fellowship aims to train a clinician-researcher in diagnosing the hidden burden of cardiac amyloid disease. It will use the facilities and scientists of the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute (VCCRI) to train a Fellow in genetic approaches to early diagnosis of cardiac amyloid. It will link this with a clinical placement at St Vincent's Hospital (SVH), one of the only centres worldwide offering cardiac transplantation for ATTR amyloid.

The Fellow will be expected to help set up and run state-of-the-art clinics for cardiac amyloid. They will be work with a multi-disciplinary team including cardiologists, neurology, haematology, genetic counsellors and allied health.

The Fellow will also be expected to undertake a dedicated research project and help build Australia-wide education programs.

The successful candidate will be cardiologist qualified with the Royal Australian College of Physicians and have a strong research background and ongoing interest.  You will be working with world-class researchers on the most exciting and cutting-edge cardiovascular studies. You will be passionate about wanting to help and establish a state-of-the-art clinic in cardiac amyloid.

Selection Criteria:

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to deliver research output including manuscript preparation and conference presentations.
